you more than anyone...

Being single and heading toward a milestone birthday can make anyone’s knees a bit jiggly. Well... at least if you are a birthday whore like me. I love them... I believe they should be reveled in...played with until they are too tired to stand up and that everyone you meet should know it’s your day. The length of time that this indulgence should be given is up to the user. I personally like to take the month...with the ‘week of’, being the pinnacle.

With no special someone to rely on for this month long festival, I made plans.

It started as a four-day-grand-adventure-spiritual-fasting-vision-quest, and tumbled into a 1.5 day camp in the woods by yourself, eat cucumbers and blueberries then hurl yourself down a rushing river.

Not a bad compromise.

In doing this, I discovered two .. no three.. ok, four things.

one: I LOVvvvvEE camping.
two: I’m head over heels for the city of Bend, OR
three: the mosquitoes in Bend are organized and hungry
four: camping by yourself maybe not as spectacular as envisioned.

I arrived in town around 4pm and set about the task of finding out where I could camp. A friendly soul at the tea shop told me about a few locations just outside of town. I purchased my first kombucha and headed out. Driving all of maybe 5 min I came to a dirt road, deemed it worthy and turned. As I was only 5 min from town, it wasn’t too remote, but I certainly was alone...or was I? Oh good grief, my imagination was kicking in. "I know I am safe, I know I am safe, I know i am.." but that didn’t stop me from spending the next 9 hrs shuttling between a languid state of bliss and a p**p your pantz “omg I’m gonna die!” fear.

After ‘marking’ my territory, or giving a path for the killers to find me, I couldn’t decide, I tucked myself into bed, equipped with a flashlight and a sense of hearing so acute, I could hear caterpillars munching in Detroit. Every crick and crackle received my rapt attention. “Ok, you can do this...breathe...appreciate where you are....” Nope, still scared. Sigh.

As I gazed thru my mesh force field, I prayed that my bones would not be the only thing left of me by morning.

But wait.. this was not why I came. There were stars weren’t there? There had to be stars. I started to count...one...two...three..infinity...infinity +1. As I counted and became more involved with the grace of the night, the fear slowly dropped away.

Day one - blissfully successful.

For day two of birthday extravaganza...I had planned to go on my first white water rafting trip. It felt like Christmas, I was so excited.

Let me just say, white water rafting is pure awesomey goodness. .LOVE.LOVE.LOVE.

The following day was Aug 4th.. the day of. My sweet friend had offered to take me to the coast, YEY ocean! We planned to meet at noon, then noon-thirty, then 1.. ok how about 2.. 2:30? Perfect.

Finally packed and leaving the house at 2:15, my mum arrived with a large bouquet of flowers and got swept up into driving me over to Zoe’s. Thanks mum : )

I arrived at z’s and headed out to the back deck to find the most stunning gift display I’ve ever seen! Prosecco, flowers saturated in oranges and yellows, a tiny red suitcase with travel tags... and COOKIES!!

After some toasting and photos...I opened my wee suitcase {which in itself was enough to make me swoon} But it was what I found inside that rendered me slightly useless. I didn’t know what to say.

You see, I have never been out of the country and for my 40th I wanted to go! Miss z knew this. And what she did was amazing. She and about 14 other friends {organized by miss z} had pooled together $$ to send me somewhere. The gift came with travel stickers, a travel journal, suggestions of where to go, sweet cards and offers of time shares. shock. I was in shock.

I couldn’t believe that so many had come together...and the thought and planning and the care. This thing they had done, it touched my heart.

Through the generosity of life and the best friends a girl could ask for, I was reminded that I don't have one special someone I have MANY special someones.

A giant sized thank you to all the wonderful people in my life, I am blessed beyond measure..

THANK YOU!!!!!

..........I've quoted it before, but it stands repeating, “You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.” –buddha...........

Please be kind and gentle to yourselves dear friends. love yourself well so that you may love the world.

my weekend with mandy

it all started here.. YUM! french press + fresh made cookie dipped in chocolate..if you haven't been, you must get to Je T'aime soon!

cheating on my nosugar-nodairy-nocoffee-nochocolate lifestyle...but oh the joy!

sorry miss Moo...not for you {don't feel too badly for her..those big doe eyes got her a hand made peanut butter doggie treat from Je T'aime

stop the cuteness!

we did a whole lot of this...snuff snuffle snuuuuf.

we even found some sidewalk chalk with which to pay homage to the mighty moo.

'do you have those in an extra large?'

but most of the time...we did a lot of this...

"mama? are you over this way? or maybe over here??"

Dear Miss Mandy,

It was so sweet to get to share a few days with you. I really enjoyed having you with me while I explored downtown vancouver. You were so patient while I sipped at nibbled at Je T'aime. Thank you for reminding me to meander + enjoy the walk rather to hustle with the purpose of getting there.

I hope you are feeling better quick like a bunny {or like that chicken we saw earlier!}

----

Yes, I'm a lucky woman...I got to spend the weekend with the sweetest girl...Mandy {moo-moo, moozilla...} Dog sitting gives me such a fabulous dose of doggie love.

My good friend, Megan was headed out of town with her husband and needed someone to hang with their lovely great dane. Although mandy spent 90% of our time together sleeping, the other 10% was deeelightful! We went on daily walks to downtown vancouver. Explored Mississippi Ave and spent an hour or so in a shop filled with cool AC + flowers + salt + chocolate. {want to see for yourself? click here for details}

I have been a fan of mandy and her mama since I met them 3 years ago. Megan is the owner and scarily talented designer of StudioM {which is becoming, clark & co. very soon} Scary because really there is nothing that Megan does not posses a talent for. Design, photography, sketching, writing, home decorating...furniture restoration. Yeah, she's a force. Besides her own fabulous company, she recently opened, 'hi friend' with another talented friend Jennifer Mele. If you like cute paper goods.. check it!

Thanks megan...I hope mandy lets me come back soon and we can all go out for a coffee + a chewie : )

as i read back over this, i realize all of this makes much more sense to me since I lived the day {don't ya just hate cryptic jabber}...and there is a WAY too long of a post that did explode all over a word doc. However, some major editing will have to take place before that sees some light. ...thank you for allowing the verbal expulsion. : )

the drought is over.

It isn’t that I had abandoned my blog entirely...I did think of it in passing from time to time. It’s just that I really had nothing to say. Sure I could have shared a photo session or two or twenty.. {and if you follow me on fb.. I have...} but this blog means more to me than just a collection of “what I do” it is a bit of my heart and soul.. a sharing of my life that runs deeper than just an image or two... yes, I will still share those.. but the dam had to be broken. The proverbial seal removed before I could jump back in.

Tonight as I ran home from the park the words pounding their tiny vocabulary fists on my brain, I knew it was over.

the thing is, I never know how long it will last. Will I feel this joyful bliss of words pouring forth for a week? just tonight? a year? how long can I stay connected this time? will I allow/be ok with the fact that when it does close the door again..that, that too is just a part of the whole? It is after all, the finding my way back that cultivates the juice... perhaps it’s even more significant than the re-opening itself. For what would I have to say if I hadn’t been questioning.... hadn’t been agitated and curious...hadn’t let the frustrations cause me to finally ask a different set of questions?

The question this morning being... “How can I be of service? How can this life I am living better the whole... where will I be drawn to give...what will it look like, and how will this divine spark that yearns to be set free show up on this earthly plane?”

This is where my day started and here my sweet friends, is where it led me....

Dr Claire Wheeler | Portland headshot photography

I always walk away from a headshot session with a natural high. I've just spent two hours really seeing someone. It's a bit giddy that exchange of energy between us. I have to be open enough in my own person to create space so that they feel they can be open with who they are.

It's quite an amazing process.

Claire is a brilliant Dr. and teacher, an incredible person and dang funny. We laughed just about the entire shoot. Her website is currently under construction, but if you want to know a bit more of her work and her story you can check out her bio on the Center for Mind Body Medicine website.

tracy | portland headshot photography

It's really crazy how much fun I have with my clients when we are creating a new headshot for them. Generally they come into the session pretty excited because they are either re-branding, re-launching or stepping into some new adventure.

You might call me a geeked out photographer...it's ok..I can take it. But with the goodness of all that energy swirling around, and the pure joy of getting to know a person, headshot photography is honestly kinda thrilling.

Getting to know Tracy and the brilliance of who she is, was one of those days where I say a humble 'thank you', for what I am allowed to do.

Updates on the launch of Tracy's re-branding and new website to follow soon.
