two orange brothers | las vegas pet photography

i met her at the ice rink... the mama to these boys. i asked her for a tissue and then we started talking.

have i mentioned lately that i love people? no? hmmm.. then i am remiss indeed,  for a large part of what fuels me in this drive to explore the world are the people i meet and the stories they have to tell.

so i asked samantha if she would be open to be a part of my project.   project? what project you might ask?  or maybe you have just skipped over this and are staring at the cute kitties, ;)  but yes there is an actual project in the works....  the official launching of which is scheduled for march 1st.  *nibbles fingers*  

coffee sips and chats were the order of our next meeting,  but as i arrived at samantha's house....  what to my wondering eyes should appear, but two orange kitties and eight tiny reindeer.   ok scratch that last part.  but the kitties were there and they were cute,  they were orange and they were brothers!  impromptu photo session? yes please!

allow me to introduce... norton + kramden.

this is norton.  aka no-no.

this is kramden, norton's brother (same litter just like my boys) --  'just drop the treat on the bed lady and no one gets hurt'

benni | barky mcbarkerson

this is benni.

benni is a mexican hairless + yorkie cross who had a really rough go when he was small.
but then he met his two benevolent papa's and his life got about a million and six times better.

now here's the thing.  i love benni.. but benni, well.. he did not share this love.

so lest you think all my photo subjects are good little soldiers.... benni barked.. benni barked a LOT... like the entire 3hr session - a lot.

but i understood, he was nervous and just wanted to protect his papa.  so we tried everything to make him more comfy.

i plied him with treats and he barked as he chewed.  i tried being far away from his papa... tried being close to his papa.  tried sitting so still you could mistake me for dead...  tried just hanging out and talking.  tried ignoring... tried a cuddle... you name it we tried it.   but he would not be thwarted.

so we worked with what was.. and in between barks.. and it really only takes a second... we created a treasury of images that made his parents swoon.  and can you blame them?  look at that face!

now let it be known... if you think your pup or kit won't sit still for the camera... honestly they probably won't. but they don't need to.   who they are is animated, who they are is loving, who they are is goofy... and it's my job to find that moment in the chaos that makes you go.. 'o my goodness.. that is so them!' barky whiskers and all.  

i love you benni.   :)

tobias | gentleman frenchie and a bow tie

this is tobias he is two years old and a recent transplant from the great city of new york.  his style is unmatched, his manners perfection... and he wears a bow tie... yes i die.

our session started at one of my most favorite shops, sterling coffee roasters on nw 21st.. but after i quite deftly knocked over a tiny flower vase from one of their small inside tables (sooo sorry guys!) i thought maybe it was time to scoot on out.

we migrated down the street to couch park and the spill of yellow fall leaves i had my eye on.  tobias was... is such a fantastic boy. unflappable.. and stoic... and altogether silly and giddy when the toys come out.

thank you for making my day tobias.  you are a star!
